Plastic recycling: facts instead of emotions and disinformation

The Gesamtverband Kunststoffverarbeitende Industrie e. V. (GKV) joins the debate on the quality of the German plastics recycling system and plastic waste shipped abroad, reacting to numerous media reports in recent weeks.

"There is no reason to discredit the existing system for recycling plastic waste in Germany in an excessive manner. Germany is and remains one of the most exemplary countries in the world when it comes to dealing with plastic waste. And we are going one step further: thanks to legal requirements such as the Packaging Act, which came into force on 1 January 2019, and voluntary efforts by companies in many sectors of our industry, both the proportion of plastic waste that is recycled and the proportion of plastic recyclates in the volume of plastics processed into high-quality products will continue to increase in the coming years," said GKV Managing Director Dr Oliver Möllenstädt in the statement.
