European recycling strategy presented

The EU Commission recently presented the first European recycling strategy. According to the strategy, all plastic packaging on the EU market should be recyclable by 2030, and the consumption of single-use plastics should be reduced and the use of microplastics limited.

Numerous industry associations have already reacted positively and see the plans now presented as being in line with their own voluntary commitments. In statements, they welcome the plans for the EU recycling strategy, as it primarily offers opportunities for the industry. For example, European plastics manufacturers are committed to ensuring high reuse and recycling rates, with a target of 60 per cent of plastic packaging by 2030. "This will enable us to achieve our goal of 100 per cent reuse, recycle and recovery of all plastic packaging At European level by 2040″, says Plastics Europe.
