Destatis: Recycling rate increased in 2016

The waste recycling rate in Germany increased in 2016. This is the result of the "Waste Balance 2016" recently published by the Federal Statistical Office. According to this, of the total waste produced in Germany (411.5 million tonnes), around 44.4 million tonnes were recycled for energy and 287.6 million tonnes for materials. This results in a recycling rate of about 81 % (previous year 79%). The rate is higher in the individual area of construction and demolition waste. Of a total of 222.8 million tonnes, 1.6 million tonnes were recovered as energy and 195.5 million tonnes as materials, which corresponds to a recovery rate of about 88 %. However, the rate here fell slightly by 1 % compared to the previous year.

A new material flow analysis for PVC based on 2017 is expected to be published by AGPU together with PlasticsEurope and BKV in October this year.
