The energetic refurbishment of the secondary school north in Jessen (Elster) is considered an instructive example in environmental matters. The three-storey main building and a two-storey front building from 1978 will receive modern thermal insulation for the facades and intermediate ceilings to the roof by 2019 while the school remains in operation. Furthermore, new plastic windows with triple glazing will provide an additional improvement in the energy balance. In this publicly funded renovation project, too, the approximately 700 old PVC windows from 1995 to 1998 will not be disposed of in the waste incineration plant after removal, but recycled and reused later.
The construction project in Jessen is part of the cross-state campaign "Best Practice for the Environment". In Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia, exemplary and sustainable building projects in which PVC building products are recycled were identified and documented. The environmental campaign, actively supported by several regional and national associations and companies, was initiated by Rewindo GmbH Fenster-Recycling-Service, Bonn, the Arbeitsgemeinschaft PVC-Bodenbelag Recycling (AgPR), Marl, and the Arbeitsgemeinschaft PVC und Umwelt e.V. (AGPU), Bonn.
